Twist (Sydney Comedy Festival)

The moment you think you’ve got a handle on things, life throws you a twist. This is a show about the unexpected and the twists… or is it? Come and see.

Award-winning writer, podcaster, performer, comedian, ex-corporate lawyer and (sort of) banjo player Alice Fraser’s reliably silly, unpredictably meaningful, narratively unorthodox, gut-punch comedy has earned her awards, globally broadcast comedy specials and appearances on TV and radio (Amazon Prime, BBC, ABC TV) and multiple podcasts.

Her comedy chops span the satirical, social, philosophical and personal, adeptly infused with trademark silliness and clever charm.

Splitting her time between Australia and the UK, Alice is probably from Australia but what are countries and why should we care?

The co-host of Andy Zaltzman’s cult satirical podcast 'The Bugle' and host of her own spin-off 'The Gargle' is back from another critically-acclaimed season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where her gut-punch comedy collected four and five star reviews and was named one of The Telegraph (UK)‘s Best Shows of 2022.

Don’t miss Alice’s new show, Twist, at Australian comedy festivals in 2023.

Jewish Comedy Showcase

The Jewish Comedy Showcase is back with a stellar line-up of the best Jewish comedians!

A Sydney Comedy Festival must-see, with rising stars and established knockouts, this sensational showcase will be held at The Comedy Store on Wednesday 3rd of May.

Crowd favourite Michael Shafar hosts an outstanding line-up of some of the most exciting Jewish comedians in Australia. Featuring Ben Kochan, Robyn Reynolds (UK), Jess Fuchs, Thalia Joan and headliner Alice Fraser.

We are so excited for our headliner, award-winning comedian Alice Fraser! Alice delights international audiences with her intelligence and sharp wit. Her sold out solo shows have been commissioned as podcasts and TV specials on Amazon Prime, NextUp and the ABC.

Our MC Michael Shafar is a true comedic talent. A RAW National Finalist, Michael has more than 10 million views on TikTok. He has appeared on ABC’s Comedy Bites, Triple J, and regularly writes for The Project. His darkly funny humour, drawing from his own experience with testicular cancer, has made him a hit on the festival circuit.

We’ve got some FANTASTIC talent in the line-up this year. You can't go wrong with the loveable Ben Kochan, a renowned joke-writer in the Australian comedy scene, he’s previously supported Tom Gleeson and Wil Anderson. Thalia Joan’s comedy is always fun and varied, having sold out runs of her solo show at Sydney Comedy Festival. Robyn Reynolds’ relatable anecdotes have made her a favourite in the local Jewish community, and she’s just finished up an artist residency with Brand X 2023. And, you may have seen one of Jess Fuchs' hilarious viral TikToks or spotted her on a bus stop for M&M’s Comedy spotlight campaign. We’re kvelling over this amazing line-up of funny Jews!

Catch all of these comedy superstars performing at The Jewish Comedy showcase.
